Tinta – Code Themes

Privacy Policy

Last updated: November 4, 2026

Short version: no account, no advertising, no tracking. Tinta sends only anonymous usage statistics, which you can turn off in Settings.

Anonymous usage statistics

To learn which features are used and what to improve, Tinta – Code Themes (“Tinta”, “the app”) sends anonymous events through Aptabase, a privacy-focused analytics service. An event says what happened in the app (for example “app opened”, “palette previewed”, “theme applied to an editor type”) together with technical context: app version, macOS version, interface language and a random session number that changes every session.

  • No name, email, account, file names, folder paths, file contents, code or theme contents are sent.
  • No advertising, device or hardware identifier is collected. Aptabase uses your IP address and user agent only in memory to derive the country/region and a pseudonymous identifier that rotates every 24 hours; the IP address is never stored.
  • The data is not linked to your identity, not combined with other data and not used for tracking or advertising. It is not sold or shared.
  • Aptabase (Technov Solutions SRL, Romania) processes the data on our behalf as a processor under Article 28 GDPR, in its EU (Germany) region, and keeps it for up to 5 years in aggregate-only form. See Aptabase's privacy policy.
  • Opt out: turn off “Invia statistiche anonime” (Send anonymous statistics) in Tinta › Settings. From then on no event is sent.
  • Legal basis (GDPR): our legitimate interest in improving the app (Art. 6(1)(f)), balanced by the anonymity of the data and the opt-out.

The App Store privacy label lists “Usage Data – Product Interaction” and “Coarse Location” for analytics, not linked to you and not used to track you.

What stays on your Mac

  • Your themes, preferences and the list of linked editors are saved locally, inside the app's sandbox container.
  • When you link an editor, macOS asks you to choose its folder. Tinta keeps a security-scoped bookmark to that folder only, and uses it only to write theme and settings files (colors) there. Before changing a settings file, Tinta saves a backup copy next to it. “Unlink” removes what Tinta added, restores the backups and deletes the bookmark.
  • To show whether an editor is linked, Tinta reads the relevant settings files in the folders you granted. Their content never leaves your Mac.

Network

Tinta connects to the internet only to send the anonymous statistics described above (unless you turn them off) and through Apple's StoreKit, used by macOS to show prices and process in-app purchases, if any; Apple handles that data under its own privacy policy. Tinta never sees your payment details. Tinta downloads nothing else.

Third-party apps and plugins

Editors you theme with Tinta (for example Claude Code, Visual Studio Code or JetBrains IDEs) are separate products with their own privacy policies. The optional Tinta plugin for Claude Code, the companion extension for Visual Studio Code and the companion plugin for JetBrains IDEs are downloaded by those apps from their own marketplaces or repositories; they apply colors locally and collect no data.

Children

Tinta is suitable for all ages and does not knowingly collect personal data from anyone, including children.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be published on this page with a new date.

Your rights

Since the statistics are anonymous we cannot link them to you, so we cannot retrieve or delete individual records; turning statistics off stops any further sending. You can still contact us, or your data protection authority (in Italy, the Garante per la protezione dei dati personali).

Informativa sulla privacy

Ultimo aggiornamento: 4 novembre 2026

In breve: nessun account, nessuna pubblicità, nessun tracciamento. Tinta invia solo statistiche d'uso anonime, che puoi spegnere nelle Impostazioni.

Statistiche d'uso anonime

  • Come rinunciare: spegni «Invia statistiche anonime» in Tinta › Impostazioni.
  • Base giuridica (GDPR): legittimo interesse a migliorare l'app (art. 6, par.

I tuoi diritti
